Without a rug, a dining table and chairs can sometimes look like they’re just floating on the floor, especially in open-plan areas. The chairs move around, the legs spread out in different directions, and the whole setup can feel visually scattered.
A rug placed under the table, large enough that chairs still sit on it when pulled out, ties everything into one “island.” The table, chairs and rug become a single unit in the room. It also helps define the dining zone in a larger space shared with living or kitchen areas.
Practically, it can reduce noise from chair legs and protect the floor a bit from scuffs. Choose a flat, easy-to-clean rug so crumbs don’t become a headache.
