Why is it wise to notice if any cables or pipes are just lying loosely across the roof surface?

Roofs sometimes become shortcuts for electricians, internet installers or plumbers. Instead of routing cables and pipes neatly along edges or supports, they lay them loosely across the surface. It’s fast, but not ideal.

Loose lines are easy to trip over, get damaged by people walking around, or suffer in strong winds. They can rub against sharp edges, sit in puddles, or be covered accidentally during roof work or waterproofing.

Neat, secured routing along walls or supports shows someone has thought about durability and safety. A mess of loose cables, on the other hand, warns you that future leaks, breakages or confusion (“Which wire is whose?”) are likely.

Organisation on the roof often mirrors organisation in the rest of the building.
