Not every plumbing issue needs a full professional visit. Sometimes a small leak at a threaded joint, a loose connection on a shower arm, or a dripping hose can be temporarily handled if you have basic tools.
A roll of plumber’s (PTFE) tape and a suitable wrench allow you—or a handy friend or neighbour—to tighten a joint and reseal threads until you can schedule a proper repair. This is especially useful at odd hours when water is leaking and you just need a quick, safe stop-gap.
You should still call a plumber for bigger or recurring problems, but having a couple of simple tools means you’re not completely helpless with every tiny issue. It’s like keeping a first-aid kit for your pipes.
